Mayor Albio Sires and the Board of Commissioners are pleased to invite residents and visitors to attend “A Conversation with Ada Ferrer” on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. at the West New York Cultural Center, located at 5712 Bergenline Avenue in West New York.
This free community event will provide attendees with a unique opportunity to hear from one of the nation’s most distinguished literary and historical voices. The conversation will be conducted in English and will feature Pulitzer Prize-winning author Ada Ferrer discussing her acclaimed work and her newly released memoir, Keeper of My Kin.
Ferrer, author of the Pulitzer Prize-winning Cuba: An American History, explores themes of migration, family, identity, and resilience in her latest memoir. Through a deeply personal narrative, she intertwines family history with broader historical events, offering readers a compelling account of the forces that shape generations.
A renowned historian of Latin America and the Caribbean, Ferrer serves as Professor of History at Princeton University. Her scholarship has focused extensively on the histories of slavery, emancipation, revolution, and social transformation throughout the Americas.
This visit carries special significance for the Township, as Ferrer is a native of West New York and a graduate of Memorial High School. Her return provides an opportunity for residents to celebrate the achievements of one of the community’s most accomplished alumni and engage in a meaningful discussion about history, culture, and personal identity.
